Today a group of us came together at Brookwood civilian plot to give all the headstones a good clean ready for our commemorative event on May 5th. The weather was dry, and we even had a bit of sunshine pop out whilst we worked. Being able to share this task with others is so much nicer than doing it alone. Having the chance to chat and share connections and discuss the latest news from abroad, helped the afternoon go even quicker. And before we knew it, we were done.
Thank you to the Jones family who year in year out help with this, to Julian Littlechild, Helena Ludikar-Jones, Gabi and Jarka from the Czech School Berkshire, Trixie, Klaudia and Katarina from the Slovak Embassy London. Particular thanks to Zdenek Kopecky who travelled down from Northampton to be with us.
We hope that those who are coming on May 5th will see in person the fruits of our labours. If you still would like to come and haven’t had an invitation, please message us or send us an email.
I am sure that the veterans would be delighted to know that there are a group of passionate supporters who are still caring for their headstones and honouring their memory.
