Never Forgoten

On Saturday 8th February, Alex Scott (Strihavka) our UK Secretary of the MAFCSV and his family were proud to be part of the Czech Ambassador’s “Never Forgotten” tour around the UK. HE Libor Sečka, along with his Defence Attache Col.Jiří Niedoba, Andrew Wood and Peter Wedd (both from the CFG), along with various guests met at Newmarket Road Cemetery at 10.00 am to pay their respects and remember the three Czechoslovak veterans buried there. These are Bohuslav Eichler who died on 5 January 1945 and František Raška and Karel Hájek, who died whilst on a training flight in a Mosquito HK227 on 9 March 1945.

After, HE Libor Sečka, attended a reception at the Cambridge Flying Group (CFG) just along from the Cemetery, which was organized by Alex Scott and Andrew Wood. The CFG was founded in 1953 at Cambridge Airport a group of Czechoslovak veterans, including Alex’s father who regularly flew from there. The CFG currently has two Tiger Moths, one being G-AOEI (EI for short) which was flown by the veterans. Alex Scott and Andrew Wood arranged for both the Ambassador and Col.Jiří Niedoba, to be taken up in the Tiger Moths and experience much like the veterans would have experienced in these aircraft. Certainly, a day that will ‘Never be Forgotten’ in more ways than one! The weather was just perfect to enable the flight. We want to send our thanks for all those that attended especially the members of CFG. Peter Wedd Chairman of the CFG has a great team and we could not have done this without the help of Andrew Wood.
